Jake gave Ashlynn a kiss as she slipped out the door, what did she have to go do? Jake honestly had no clue, he'd meet up with her at the barn though. Jake let himself out of Ashlynn's door and headed out to his car parked at the curb, he threw his stuff in the trunk, and swiftly headed across campus back to the guys dorm so he could go change. He quickly made it back changed into a pair of jeans, his riding boots and a clean t-shirt. He left his hair ungelled beause one, he didn't have time and two- it wasn't worth it if he was just going out to the barn. He decided he'd walk to the barn now- just to get some fresh air and it wasn't that far of a walk from the guys dormitories to stables anyway.
He got there pulling the large barn door open, he walked down the aisle of the first barn about a third of the way down- to where wranger was stalled. Wranger, was a wreckless paint stallion; who had a need for speed and didn't exactly like the term halt, or stop. So he hoped upon hoped that he could be on a good behavior today, he didn't want to get dumped off or thrown with Ashlynn here, although it'd probably be something the two laughed about later. Jake went to the tack room to retrive his brushes and his western saddle and bridle for Wranger. Jake went back to Wranger's stall and haltered him, and placed the fiery stallion onto a set of crossties, he looked down the aisle wondering where Ashlynn was, and if she'd be here soon or not.

BABY I HOPE YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE,
She hadn't told Jake where she was going because she still had plenty of things in her past she hadn't told him about. Like the fact she was forced to go to Narcotics and Alcoholics Anonymous twice a week. But she was going to go and cancel her session today, say she was feeling anti-social and she'd make up for it by having a lengthier section next time. All lies, but still.. She closed her eyes, leaning against the doorway to the barn before she inhaled sharply. She'd just went in the building and canceled her appointment. God she hated those meetings.
You sat around in either a circle, or a semi-circle, depending on if any of the patients had ended up overdosing or relapsing again and you were supposed to be some bleeding heart sob story, and tell your life story to a bunch of strangers with fake smiles who broke out in cold sweats because they were suffering from withdrawal. But she knew she'd had to stop her alcohol and drug addiction, or else she'd risk losing everything. Okay, scratch that, she'd lose Jake. And right now, that was all that was really important to her. Lifting a hand, she glanced at her cell phone to check the time and cringed instantly. Damnit! She scolded herself immediately and broke out in a job down the aisles, quickly fetching the beautiful but spirited Anglo-Arab, Bandit and grooming him in a hurried fashion. Pushed for time, she saddled the feisty equine and led him out of the stables, swinging up quickly as she peered around. Damnit, how late was she?

Jake had already groomed and tacked Wranger, and was leading him out into the outdoor arena, he'd wait there until Ashlynn came; otherwise he was going to go find her himself. He made to hops from the ground and swung himself over into the saddle and settled down gently, it was only his second time on the fiery stallion, and he hoped that the stallion wouldn't make a fool out of Jake- especially infront of his girlfriend Ash. The gelding pranced until Jake pushed him forward and walked him on the rail, will you cut it out, Jake scolded the antsy stallion with his boice.
He then heard footsteps and another set of hoofbeats coming out of the barn, and saw Ashlynn; he couldn't help but let a grin spread it's way across his face as she walked up to the ring. Jake walked Wranger to the gate of the arena, and dismounted and pushed the gate open and then walked him through to the other side, and then closed the gate behind the two- I figured we could just go on a trail ride today, as long as that's okay with you? He said smiling up her beautiful face, as he walked to Wranger's side and swung up and mounted again, then moved next to Ashlynn and her horse- being sure to keep a safe distance. As Wranger was one pissy horse.

She felt her heart begin to hammer wildly in a crazed frenzy in her chest as she spotted Jake, using a soft click of her tongue and the suggestive nudge of her legs into Bandit's shoulders to urge him forward. Miraculously, the horse listened and for that much, she was thankful. Like Jake, she was hoping desperately that her horse wouldn't make a fool out of her. "It's fine, Teddy Bear." She looked up at him with a grin and waited until he opened the gate, once more coaxing Bandit out of his sulking stand.
She lifted a single hand, brushing her hair from her face as the two horses tread along the path. Bandit seemed more interested in stealing nips of the lush vegetation on either side of the trail than being a jerk, and again, Ashlynn was thankful. She'd heard there was a Prom coming back, and at once, she'd felt giddy but insanely terrified. She personally thought she looked terrible in dresses, but maybe it was just because she hated how she looked. Who really knew. Taking a sidelong glance at Jake, she flashed him a grin. "So what do you plan on doing once you leave Canterbury?" She couldn't help it, she wanted to know every last detail about "Bear."

Jake walked the stallion along side of Ashlynn and Bandit, keeping space betweent he two horses, as to not cause any conflict, with the horses. He glanced over at Ashlynn and smiled at her, he held his reins in his right hand and left his left hand on his left leg, as the two just strolled along down the path, surprisingly Wranger wasn't being full of himself, and acting like an idiot. When Ashlynn asked, so what do you plan on doing once you leave Canterbury? Jake thought for a moment; although he hated thinking of life after Canterbury, and it possibly being without Ashlynn, and he didn't want that at all- what he hoped in his eyes was that Ashlynn was the girl for him, possibly the girl he could spend the rest of his life with; sure they hadn't been dating long, but he was falling in love with this girl.
I really want to go to school and major in business, possibly at a school more towards the east coast, he told her, his thoughts of going to school away or without Ashlynn just pierced his heart, he then added- But then theres the part of me that doesn't want to be away from you, he told her, stealing a glance at her and smiling from the corner of his eye. He wasn't totally sure what Ashlynn would think of the last comment he made, he hoped that didn't freak her out.
So- about Prom. He said to her turning his head to talk to her, glancing ahead a few times every so often to make sure Wranger wasn't going to run over anything. Has anyone asked you to go with them yet? He said teasing her playfully- he was probably sending her heart into overdrive, teasing her about Prom like this, she was probably wondering when he was going to ask her already, he had a few tricks and surprises up his sleeve for Ashlynn, to make asking her to prom extra special.

Whoever said distance makes the heart grow fonder obviously hadn't liked the person they were referring to, because as sappy as it sounded, nwo that Ashlynn had found sheer perfection in Jake, she didn't want to let go and lose him. She bit her lip, half-terrified to know what he'd say. She nodded slowly at his first words, forcing her eyes to remain fixated on the trail ahead. 'But then there's part of me that doesn't want to be away from you'. At that, she couldn't help the shock from flickering over her face and she glanced at him sharply. Biting down on her lower lip yet again, she looked away after giving him an almost sad smile.
"I'll bore you soon enough,"
She murmured softly with a laugh, her tone light and playful though in all honesty she couldn't help but think it was the truth. At least a little. She was terrified of that happening, but .. she'd manage. She had to, right? At his mention of prom, she rolled her eyes and looked at him, giving him a devious smile. "Oh yeah, he's pretty amazing, too." Ash teased back promptly, flashing him a coy grin. With a tilt of her head, she regarded him quietly, loosening her reins, hoping that the hyper-active horse beneath her wouldn't decide to be a jerk anytime soon. "So, what about that other girlfriend of yours, Bear? Are you going to go with her?" Her voice sounded entirely genuine, only the gleam in her eyes and her smile told that she was only joking. But, even though she knew Jake was only joking around, it didn't stop her heart from freaking out like a spaz.

"I'll bore you soon enough," when Jake heard those words from Ashlynn, whether she'd been joking or not, he turned so that almost all of his upper body was facing her; while he switched to holding his reins in his left hand rather than his right. Ashlynn, you'll never bore me. I have such an amazing and fun time with you; no matter what even if times you are boring, I always want to be with you. He said to her, his words just kind of jumbling out hinting at that we wanted to be with her forever, sure it was way to soon to think this- but he was falling in love with this girl, he awaited her answer hoping she didn't think he was crazy for sort of moving so fast.
He's pretty amazing, too." Jake smiled at her then added Oh, really? Well he better treat you like a princess. Jake said with a grin across his face, then when she asked about his 'date.' He grinned at her and said- Oh of course I'm going with her, and the dress she's going to wear- wow. Jake was totally kidding, but he tried concealling his laughter but it wasn't working, but truly- he wouldn't want to go to Prom with anyone but Ashlynn.
He then turned himself back so he was facing forward in his saddle when all of a sudden there was rustling of a small animal in the bushes along side the path, and Jake was no where ready for that to happen, Wranger kicked up his feet then threw his front end up into a rear, and tossed Jake to the ground. Jake luckily enough was able to hang on to the stallion's reins, but once he hit the ground- an uncontrolled Shit, came from his mouth. God damn, Wranger why wouldn't have you been good just this once? He said scolding towards the stallion, but couldn't help but smile in Ashlynn's direction, he was sure that she was probably laughing at him by now.

She couldn't help but blush, flushing scarlet along her cheeks as he spoke, his tone serious and words genuine. She was terrified at the thought of losing him, but the thought of "forever" scared her as well. Swallowing her emotions, she managed to maintain a straight face, trying her hardest not to look scared or smile like an idiot. "I .. I don't know what to say?" Ashlynn murmured softly, laughing - almost nervously. Almost immediately, she began nibbling on her lower lip. But as the mood lightened with the mention of the nonexistant prom dates, she couldn't help but laugh.
"Oh yes. He's everything anyone could want, and more." With that she paused, giving him a meaningful glance - it was much easier talking to him about how she felt towards him as if he were a different person. Then she didn't feel so nervous, and she didn't get butterflies and sweaty palms like a school kid. Her eyes gleamed with amusal as he spoke about his 'date' and she burst into a series of giggles. "Damn, I'm jealous already."
A small animal, a chipmunk or squirrel most likely, scrambled within the bushes and Wranger practically had a fit. For the most part, Bandit remained under control though he tensed before abruptly stopping and backstepping swiftly. As Jake was tossed to the ground and exclaimed in agitation, at first Ash's main concern was his safety. But once it was apparent that he was perfectly fine, she erupted into giggles. Swinging her leg over the saddle, she slipped down to the ground, one hand still grasping Bandit's reins so he didn't get any bright ideas. "You alright, Bear?" She fought to keep a straight face and kill her giggles, but it was proving to be rather difficult.
"I don't want want this moment to end, where everything's nothing without you. I'd wait here forever, just to see you smile. 'Cause it's true, I'm nothing without you."
Randomly, loud music blared through the silence and Ash jumped in alarm, as well as Bandit, who snapped his head up and yanked Ashlynn's arm, giving her a searing pain in her shoulder. She must've accidently hit something on her ipod. Scrambling to remove it from her pocket, she turned it off and gave him a sheepish, apologetic look.
"Sorry." She murmured softly, glancing at him curiously.

When he watched Ashlynn's he was nervous he didn't know what she was thinking, he didn't want to scare her or anything, or push her into being with him forever. When she told him she didn't know what to say, she wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. Ash- it's okay, you don't have to say anything. Jake told her with a smile, she didn't need to give him an answer, he didn't want to have scared her or anything like that. When she started talking about their non-existent prom dates again he couldn't but smile at her, he was having so much fun.
After Wranger went and dumped Jake on the ground and Ashlynn had climbed off of her horse and came down to see if Jake was okay or not, he smiled at her after he was sure he still had a good grip on his horse, and when Ashlynn was close enough to him, he pulled her down with him. He couldn't help but smile at her, then he responded with I'm okay now, he smiled at her.
He kissed her gently then smiled down at her. Then he slowly stood up, and pulled Ashlynn up with him. He wrapped his one arm around her while he still held Wranger's reins in his hand. Then Ashlynn's ipod? cellphone? He wasn't quite sure- but something started blaring music between the two. He let Ashlynn pull away for a moment to retreve whatever it was, and let her turn it off. The lyrics that played through the were almost a perfect match to what they had just been speaking of before that. He smiled down at her and slid his arm around her waist and pulled her close once more. Don't worry about it Ash, it's fine. He kissed her forehead, So, what do you want to do know? He said with a laugh- not sure if they wanted to continue the trail ride or if they just wanted to head back or what.
Jake smiled down at her for a few more moments before he decided that this would be a good time to start the surprise that he had planned for Ashlynn, so that he could ask her to prom It was extremely creative- and he knew that she'd think it was super cute. He had the envelope to the first surprise in his back pocket, but he'd wait awhile before he gave it to Ashlynn. So do you maybe want to head back to the barn, because I have a really great surprise planned for you.. He kissed her forehead once more, and held her there in his arm and awaited her answer, he was excited for the surprise that he had planned for her- but he still had part of surprise to set up.

It wasn't that Ash didn't want to be with Jake for the longest time possible, it was just that she was too scared to say so. But could anyone really blame her? Look at what'd happened in her past and her previous relationships. They only wanted one thing out of her. Ugh, and here she was standing with the most entirely perfect guy and she could only giggle like some fifth grader. When he pulled her down with him, she giggled softly, looking at him, her face lit up and her expression delighted. After a kiss, he soon stood and helped her up as well. Shaking her head at her own thoughts, she let her lips curve upward in a smile. Leaning up to return his kisses eagerly, she closed her eyes, leaning her head against his chest with a content sigh.
"I wanna know how such a jock can fall off his horse and look so silly." She murmured playfully. Snuggling against him briefly, she glanced at Bandit, who was currently nuzzling into the crook of her neck. He didn't seem to enjoy sharing Ashlynn's affections or attention with Jake. Such a jealous horse! Ashlynn scoffed softly, turning from Jake to pat the anglo-arab's sleek nose before nodding in response to Jake's words. "A surprise?"
The pretty teen murmured thoughtfully and bouncing up on her tiptoes, she kissed him passionately before sidling away and mounting the now jittery and eager Bandit once more. Even the horse seemed to know it was time to head back to the stables. He was either hungry, or ready to lounge around lazily again. Laughing softly as Bandit lipped at his foreleg and slipped into a smooth, effortless lope - Ash took the time to give Jake another smile, easily maintaining her hold on the reins. Soon enough, they arrived back at the barn and she cross-tied Bandit, removed his tack and groomed him. She released him into one of the paddocks before heading to Wranger's stall - hoping she'd catch Jake there still. Then again, she doubted he'd just up and ditch her like that, anyway.

He held Ashlynn in his arms for a few moments longer, before giving her a long kiss and then letting her return to bandit so that the two of them could head back up to the barn. He mounted back up onto Wranger and cantered off behind Ashlynn up to the barn. Yes- a surprise, he said to her. The got back to the barn, and Jake returned Wranger to his stall, stripping off the stallion's tack, and givin ghim a quick brush down, and putting his tack away just in time to meet Ashlynn out in front of Wrangers stall.
He embraced Ashlynn in his arms, pressing his forehead into hers, and then kissing her lips tenderly. He pulled away for just a moment; to smile at her, Alright- so are you ready for your surprise? He said leaving her in suspense just a little while longer.
Alright- I have an envelope here.. he said pulling it front his back pocket, sorry it's a little wrinkled, he said with a slight laugh. There are two letters in there, wait till I leave to open them... okay? He didn't want to leave her, but for the surprise to work it had to be this way, I know you can do it, he murmmered into her ear, before kissing her passionately and giving her a tight hug, and then he swiftly strode down the barn aisle and out the door- off to plant the next clues along Ashlynn's scavenger hunt. A large grin rested over his lips, he walked back out to his SUV, he parked it in the back of the barn so that Ashlynn wouldn't be able to see it.
in the envelope: two letters were folded neatly in the envelope the first one was address as NOTE # ONE, READ FIRST!
Note # one.:
Ashlynn- I know you can do this, I've set up a scavenger for you- I know your adventurous enough to follow it, you will get your surprise at the end. Read the next letter to get your first clue. Love- Jake.
Note # two:
Alright clue number 1- This is the place where we first met, ask the guy behind the counter for your first clue.He knew Ashlynn could do this- the first clue would take her to the club, where they met for the very first time. Which is a moment and a day that Jake will never forget.

Laughing softly at the thought of what the surprise could possibly be, she couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in overwhelming intrigue as he spoke. "Well then, aren't you just Mr. James Bond, the man of mystery?" She murmured playfully against his lips as she rose on her toes to kiss him. Closing her eyes, she cuddled against him as he began speaking once more, opening her eyes soon after. "Psh, baby, I was born ready." Ashlynn playfully remarked.
She took the envelope, giggling at it, getting ready to open it but when he told her to wait - she froze, looking at him in curiosity. It was practically killing her to wait but she bit her lip gently and nodded, flashing him a brilliant, coy grin. "Whatever you say, romeo." She murmured softly before kissing him quickly and watching him walk away. Once he vanished from sight, she looked down at the envelope and opened it, her eyes quickly scanning over his messy scrawl with a fond smile. She adored his handwriting, even if you had to think about what it said sometimes due to his boyish writing. Laughing softly, she read both the notes and smiled to herself.
This would undoubtedly be fun.
She'd decided to borrow an old friend's car for the week until she got unlazy enough to go buy herself one. Grinning, she got in her friend's sportscar and headed to the club.
Giggling like a child, she entered the club - scanning over the empty place with a small grin. Barely anyone came here during the day - and with good reason. Who wanted to party in the daytime? Psh. As she headed up to the counter, she flushed, holding back a series of nervous giggles. "This is gonna sound ..random but do you have anything for me?" The whole mystery of Jake's surprise was intriguing and it would definitely be fun to figure out.

Jake watched Ashlynn from his truck on the side of the barn, he saw her leave the barn and knew that it was time to go set up the second elements of scavenger hunt, he hopped out of his car, a boquet of a dozen red roses, in his arm- he knew ashlynn had a hard time with color, but the roses were the thought that counted. He placed another envelope with the flowers at a tree stump around the spot where Jake had fallen just an hour or so ago. He drove across campus to the girl dormitories, and placed another white envelope on it. This is where his next clue would led Ashlynn.
The bartender smiled, he wasn't used to having costumers during the day time, but he was expecting this one- You must be Ashlynn- he said to her, bending down behind the 'bar' and pulling out an envelope with her name on it and clue number 2 scrawled in jake's messy hand writing.
CLUE # TWO
Okay- next clue, this is the place where we had our first kiss, or more- you kissed me. :]

As Jake was setting up the next stages of the surprise, Ashlynn was laughing softly at the bartender's comment and nodded, blushing immediately. "The one and only." She teased softly and once he gave her the envelope and gave him a tiny wave and practically bounced out of the club. She was incredibly jubilant feeling, and once she was outside she tore open the envelope, giggling at Jake's messy handwriting. Shaking her head with a smile, she felt her heart go wild in her chest at the memory the note triggered. Biting her lip, and becoming lost in the thought - she slipped back into the car and headed back to the girl's dorms.
Soon enough, she spotted the note almost as soon as she'd gotten out of the car and smiled to herself, trotting over and picking it up. Dark, electric blue eyes scanning over the writing to see where this interesting "scavenger's hunt" would lead her next. One thing was for sure, Jake was certainly full of surprises.

Clue number three. - This next place isn't far at all, we had a ton of fun here, our little sleepover, ha. I got to know alot more about you here too.
His next clue would lead her just a few yards, down the hallway to her dorm; where on her door was the next clue. Tapped to her door wasn't in an envelope this time, it was a cut out heart on pink construction paper, the heart was somwhat lopsided, as it hadn't come out like Jake had planned it. This next clue read: Hang in there, there aren't to many more clues left, we've been here once today, we had a great laugh deep in the woods. Here you'll not only find your next clue, but a present too.
This would led her back out to the trails where they went riding today, and she'd find a dozen red roses, and another note leading her to the final mission on her scavenger hunt.
