Kailee looked up at Caleb as they entered the park. I love cross-country! Well, I've never actually competed, but there are a lot of courses by my farm. She said. Her eyes sparkled just thinking about it.
So, how did you turn your horse around and get him to let you ride him?
One of Kailee's favorite things to do was to listen to other peoples horse stories. She loved hearing how they had turned horses around or things like that. Kailee looked up at Caleb and awaited his answer.

Caleb smiled as Kailee talked. His hands hooked in his pockets, he walked slowly across campus. The sun beat down on him, warming his whole body. He pulled off his unbuttoned button-up shirt and held it in one hand. His undershirt was tight-fitting, hinting at his firm muscles.
"Well, it required lots of bruises. Tempest was wild when we brought him in. It took three years to calm his fiery nature, and even then he was still eager to bite. But it wasn't overly hard. It just took time. I talked to him a lot, and just sat near him. Over time, I started to bring in the reins and saddle."
He shrugged.

Kailee listened as Caleb told her about Tempest. She remembered her dad telling her a story about a horse like that. Kailee tried not to stare when Caleb took his shirt off, for he was even hotter then.
I understand that. My horse back home is a Dutch Warmblood Thoroughbred cross. Of course he goes around like a Warmblood all calm and stuff, but on the ground he is a total Thoroughbred stallion. Kailee thought back to the big, beautiful, goofy stallion she had left behind.
I raised him because his mother died, so he never learned how to be a horse. Percy loves to bite and have his way, which can be an issue. But I love him anyway. Hey, want to sit here? Kailee stopped and motioned toward the bench beside her.

Caleb didn't notice if Kailee stared or not. He wasn't that kind of guy. Sure, he knew he was good looking, but he didn't think he was that great. I mean, he wasn't one of those vain rippers that flaunted their looks all up and down this campus. He listened to her talk about Percy, smiling. His gray eyes went to where she'd motioned to and he nodded his agreement. Walking slowly, he went with her to the bench and sank down onto it. He stretched out his long legs and rested his long arms on the back of the bench.
Percy sounds like a real spitfire. That was a really great thing you did, though, raising him. I have a Canadian Warmblood now. They're great animals.

Kailee looked over at the guy who sat next to her on the bench. She smiled when he talked about the Canadian Warmblood he had. Kailee felt herself falling for him even more....
So Caleb, do you have any siblings?? Kailee asked, looking up at him with her dark, liquid chocolate eyes. She wanted to know everything about him.
Her mind suddenly wandered, a memory from last year. Her eyes glazed over.....

Caleb dropped his one arm to his leg, drumming his fingers on his knee. A pair of birds flew together in the air, twirling and singing to one another. He watched them, wistful, suddenly feeling incredibly lonely. He sighed and turned to Kailee when he heard her voice. So Caleb, do you have any siblings?
He nodded slowly, still kind of lost in thought, while feeling bad for not being totally there. He forced himself to return to that moment. One sister. Her name's Kaylin. She's a good kid, but has a bit of a temper. He saw her eyes glaze over and he turned to fully face her, eyes worried. You have that look again, Kailee. He lifted a hand to her chin and gently turned her face to look at him. What's wrong, Kailee? His voice was soft with concern.

Kailee felt herself come back to reality. When her vision cleared she found herself looking into Caleb's concerned eyes, his hand on her chin.
Should I tell him? Wait Kailee, that isn't the right question. Can I tell him? Kailee asked herself. She thought back to what had just happened. Caleb seemed to genuinely care about what kept happening to her.
Almost everything. Kailee said to him, just as a tear started to roll down her cheeks.

Caleb didn't like her answer, or the tear rolling down her cheek. He got off the bench and kneeled infront of her. He wiped away her tear. His eyes glowed, concern radiating from him. He cupped her face in his large hands. Kailee, come on, talk to me. You can trust me. What's going on?

Kailee kept her eyes on him as he slid down and knelt in front of her. Her dark eyes closed as he brushed the tear off of her face. Taking a deep breath, Kailee began to spill her sad story.
Okay, well, you have to understand something first. It's kind of hard for me to just sit here with you right now. I don't trust guys anymore. Kailee drew in a shaking breath before starting again.
Last year, I was really into this one guy. He was popular and every girl in school like was in love with him. Well when he asked me out.....well I got really carried away. But there was a side of him that he never let me see. He was a drunk and into a lot of drugs. We decided, well actually he decided, that we should go to this party. He got totally wasted and had already done a shit load of drugs by the time we had gotten there. Kailee took another breath before continuing, tears streaming down her face.
Some how, I ended up in a room with Jake. It didn't take long before I figured out what he wanted, but I just couldn't let that happen. That wasn't the way I thought is was supposed to happen. So when I said no, it just pissed him off. Out of nowhere, there was a gun to my head. He threatened to kill me if I didn't do what he said. Thankfully, some drunk girl like practically broke the door down and screamed at the sight of the gun, which scared the shit out of Jake. Which gave me time to call the cops while he was trying to get her out of the room.
Kailee took in a breath and blinked. She looked at Caleb to see his reaction.

Caleb pulled his hands away from her when she said she couldn't trust guys anymore. He sat back on his heels and watched her, careful. As her story went on, Caleb's eyes grew dark and stormy. It took a lot to get Caleb this angry, and by the time she was finished, he was on his feet. He stormed at the tree next to the bench and punched it, a resounding crack filling the air. The trunk had a new scar on its bark, and Caleb's knuckles were bloodied. His gray eyes were dark and furious.
He stayed at least five feet from Kailee. His arms were folded across his chest as he stared at her. Where is he now? His voice was deathly quiet, even as he tried to calm himself.

Kailee watched his eyes change. This was not what she had expected. Mostly she had expected him to be all See ya! I'm out of here freak!
Her eyes followed him as he stood. Kailee jumped a little as he punched the tree. Slowly she stood up and carefully walked over to him. Kailee looked up into his eyes which were filled with anger.
Cautiously, with tears still streaming, she stood directly in front of him. You know what? I don't even know. Technically, he should of gotten out of jail about a month ago, but I'm not really sure. The thought that he could be anywhere scared the crap out of Kailee, which made the tears stream down even more.

Caleb tried to get his emotions under control. The idea of someone holding a gun to a young woman's head for refusing him sex... it set Caleb's blood boiling. He shook slightly, his whole body trembling. He clenched and unclenched his fists, breathing uneven and hard. He hated seeing the tears on Kailee's cheeks. He longed to wipe them from her face, but restrained himself. After so many nights comforting Kaylin for this boy or that - although the problem only being that the boy in question didn't return her feelings - and wiping away her own tears, it was hard for him not to comfort Kailee.
Kailee, you have nothing to worry about. He'll never come near you again or I'll murder him. Kailee, I'll never hurt you - I'll never touch you or ask you for such things. Neither will many of the young men on this earth. The fact that you've known such a bastard - He spit the word out. - I can't tell you how sorry I am for you. But, Kailee, please. You have nothing to worry about anymore.

Kailee looked up at Caleb, her eyes saying everything about the way she felt about him.
Caleb, there is a reason why I told you that and no one else. Kailee took a deep breath before continuing. It's because I know that I can trust you. I just feel like your exactly the person that I can always talk to.
Kailee knew why she had told Caleb her story. She liked him, maybe even a little to much. Kailee knew that he wouldn't do what Jake had done. She didn't know how she knew, but she just did.

Caleb ignored the look in her eyes, passing it off as her sadness. He listened to her words and nodded. Kailee... I'm very happy to be able to call you a friend, and I hope that you know the same - I am your friend as well. Trust is a very strong thing, Kailee, and I hope to never challenge that trust. He lifted his hands and wiped away her tears. Now, let us talk of happier things. Caleb was calm once more, and a bit uncomfortable at the talk of her trust in himself.

Kailee noticed his discomfort and backed off. She had always been to forward about her emotions. Nice going Kailee! Your going to scare him away idiot! Kailee said to herself.
Kailee moved back over to the bench. She shook her head and fixed her headband. So, what do you want to talk about?
