Stephanie felt around on the library's tall shelf for the book she was looking for. Finally, she found it. She checked the call number. YA FIC ANDERSON. Yep, that was it. "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson. She was surprised that she had actually found a book that she could relate to. Stephanie curled up in a faux leather arm chair and began to read.
By the time Stephanie got to the end of the first marking period, she couldn't put the book down. She loved how fluently Anderson used her words. She loved the description of Syracuse, New York, where the book was set. And most of all, she wanted to find out what had happened at that party.
Stephanie continued reading, and when Anderson started giving hints at what had happened, Stephanie was terrified. She only needed a few hints to know what it was, and she knew she had to put the book down. Stephanie had found out that she could REALLY relate to this book. Stephanie silently put the book down, buried her face in her hands, ad let the tears stream down her cheeks.
