Ruby continued down the path that led to the arena. She decided to get on from the ground instead of the mounting block, so that she wouldn't lose the skill. She placed the reins over May's head, and pulled down her stirrups. She checked the girth one final time, and reached her leg up into the stirrup. Even though Ruby was small, and May was tall, she hopped on her other foot, and on the third bounce, she swung her other leg over the mare's back. She gathered up her reins, and closed her legs on the mare's sides.
When Ruby gave this command, May breathed in deep and began walking. Ruby liked her long stride already. Finally they arrived at the arena, and May was ready to do more. She reached over, and unclipped the gate. She guided May through, and then performed a turn on the forehand so she was facing the gate again. She pulled it shut, and began walking around the ring, making sure May wouldn't spook at anything. After a lap, Ruby gave the mare some more leg, pushing her into a trot. The mare had long, quick strides, and Ruby felt like she was in heaven. Then after she thought about what had just run through her mind, she almost broke into tears. The thought of her brother- the car- the flash of light- the music blaring. They were her least favorite memories; they were the last five seconds of her brothers life.
Ruby decided that it was time to ask for a canter, and figured that it would help clear her mind. She squeezed her outside leg, but got no response. Then she waved the crop in front of the mare's eyes, and she broke into a quick canter. Ruby sat deep in the saddle, and after a couple of laps in each direction, decided that she needed more speed. She slowed down May, and adjusted her stirrups so she could get into a jockeys' crouch. She asked for a trot, posting quickly to match May's stride, and in the corner, got into a crouch and gave her the signal; a hard squeeze, and the wave of the crop next to their eye. May broke into a gallop, and they went around for about ten minutes until Ruby slowed her to a walk.
Deciding that May had enough energy to jump, Ruby hopped down and put up a few cross rails and a couple of verticals. She decided it would be better to raise them later. She headed back to May, and mounted from the ground again. She went to the end of the arena, and moved her to the center. She lowered her stirrups for a good jumping length, and went back out to the rail.
In the corner, she asked for a canter, and circled before heading to the first cross rail. She went straight to it, squeezing at the base, preparing for the next jump. To her surprise, May had a jump like some of the steeple chasers that she used to race. She used an automatic release, and aimed for the next jump. Ruby asked for a lead change, seeing that they landed on the incorrect lead. She felt the flying change, and put her focus onto the next cross rail. Again, they lept over it with no effort. Ruby turned near the other end of the ring, preparing herself for the verticals. There was a bounce spread, followed by a 3' vertical. She squeezed at the base of the first jump, allowing her body to fold with May's, and grabbed a chunk of mane in the one stride they had until the next jump. Once again they were in the air, and they landed with a soft thud on the sand. She righted her position, and headed to the larger vertical. Ruby let the mare figure it out on her own, and shut her eyes, putting all her trust in the horse. She felt May take off, and once again opened her eyes. They were in mid-jump, and Ruby braced herself for the landing. When May had all fours on the ground, she let out a buck of joy, and shook her head.
Ruby slowed the mare to a walk after this, planning on cooling her off. She dropped her stirrups, and went to the rail, letting her reins loosen. Her pink hair was plastered to her fore head, and she was thinking about riding down to the beach. She was still debating this thought, but decided to stay in the ring for the time being.

Born with naturally brown hair, Kat has a wide variety of hair color. Every couple of months when she gets bored she'll dye it a new color, whether it be pink or blue or blonde. It's generally past her shoulders, whether it be extensions or her real hair. Presently it is a mixture of black underneath, with blue streaks and striped bangs.
Kat is fairly small. She stands at about five foot- four inches. Her weight is about one hundred and seventeen pounds or so, slightly underweight for her age. Her body is covered with scars from when she was a crazy and daring child.
She also has a variety of piercings and tattoos. She has a septum piercing, though she flips it up into her nose much of the time. She also has her ears pierced and two surface piercings; one on either side of her hips. Behind her ear she has a small tattoo of a moon and a few stars.

Crazy is the one word that can describe Kat's clothing style. Whatever she's wearing has to be bright and obnoxious, and generally needs a womping piece of jewelery to go with it. personality: [at least three paragraphs. nothing too perfect please. everyone has flaws]
Kat is wild and adventurous. Her family called her a wild child since she was a baby. She is a very bubbly person, and loves being happy. Things please her easily, and she is amused by almost anything. She pays attention to everything, and is captivated by art and music.
Though she is in a good mood nearly all the time, if you piss her off you better hide. She'll scream at you and complain until you apologize or she gets her way. If you instigate her she'll be out of her seat in no time, ready to pounce. And once you are on her bad side that's where you will stay.
Kat has a lot more under her bubbly attitude. She is a real person with real problems and concerns. The feeling of holding her family together gets her down, and makes her feel like she has to be perfect. One mistake and she'll be hysterical for hours. When she's this down she'll stay with her horse or go on a long trail ride to get herself together.
history: [at least four paragraphs. tell us everything]
Born on October 31, better seen as Halloween, Kat was a vivacious child from the start. At three she was introduced to horseback riding, due to the fact her parents owned a showing stable. She had a fat and obnoxious pony named Milky Way. Milky Way trained her control and be fearless. He built her confidence and strength. Kat also had her first shows on Milky Way; just local short stirrup competitions.
As she got a little older, she out grew Milky Way. Her parents bought her a gelding named Mason, or As Good As It Gets. Together they showed around in children's hunter/ jumper competitions, collecting ribbons wherever they went. But not only her riding changed. She was becoming more of an individual, and sneaking out of the tight mold her parents had made for her. Such as the fact they wanted her to stay in the hunter/ jumper circuit, and she wanted to begin eventing.
When she was thirteen, her parents were terrified when she came home with bleached blonde hair, with hot pink streaks in it. First the eventing, and now her rebellious hair. Not long after, she got her septum pierced, and her parents were furious. She was grounded for ages from hanging out with her friends. She had to train every day from sunrise to sunset.
As Kat was getting older and maturing, her parents were fighting more and more. She did everything she could to make her parents happy, like getting straight A's and training harder. She advanced into the preliminary level, and began training at even larger heights. When Kat heard about Canterbury Academy, she wanted to leave her home, full of arguments and stress. She asked her parents and told them about the stellar riding program, and they agreed!
riding expierence: [at least one paragraph. talk about years riding, past horses, disciplines, etc.]
Raised in a family of horses, Kat has been riding for almost twelve years. She started out on a 'mutt' pony named Milkyway; a fat and bratty pony. He taught her control and discipline, but at the same time took fairly good care of her. After Milkyway, Kat stuck to horses, enjoying their bigger stride. At the age of six she began showing in the children's hunter circuit, and competed nationally. When she got to the age of nine, her love for riding changed into a love for eventing. She began training and would compete in the novice section on her horse Mason, or As Good As It Gets. Now she is competing in the Preliminary level, and training in the Intermediate level on a 17.1 hh mare named Annie, or My Fair Lady.
