She'd never in her whole life felt so nervous. Not even in the show ring. Not even when she was falling and could only see the four rushing hooves flying over her face. But she could see the look on Kayden's face, almost as clear as day. She knew he'd have something to say about her choice of mount - maybe everybody would. But she wasn't as nervous about that part as she was about the new trainer part.
Scratch that. The whole situatuation was new. She'd ridden ponies this small before, and she'd ridden with a lot of outside trainers, but never together. If she was on a small pony at this point in her life, she was usually playing games, or schooling. This was an entirely different scenario.
She had even gone an extra mile. The only time she would dare ride in riding pants was in the show ring. She never found them comfortable. She usually wore jeans and halfchaps. But today, she had her old show pants on, with paddock boots and half chaps (she could bare the idea of tall boots unless she was showing), and a nice polo shirt. Nothing really fancy, but more presentable that she would usually be.
She looked at Streak, who was stomping his foot from the end of the reins. He seemed impatient, so she decided to get started a bit early. She tightened her girth and ran down her stirrups, then carefully swung up onto Streak's back from the ground. She reached to her chin strap and buckled it quickly, letting the pony walk around the ring on the buckle while she waited for Kayden.
