Caleb ripped down the street, his speedometer reading nearly 200 mph. His helmet visor was down, hiding his flashing eyes. Anger coursed through him, confusion following in its wake. His whole body was tense, and not even his speed and his bike was easing any of the tension. His tight black shirt accented his taut muscles. He slid between two cars, evoking honks from both as his legs nearly brushed the sides. The moon was already out, shining down on him. With a hard brake, he parked in a spot near the beach and walked towards the group of people. Standing on the outskirts, he scanned the people dancing, hoping that the person had been wrong, that JT was sleeping in her dorm. She hadn't answered his call or his txt. As he watched, JT came into view, pressed against Jake.
Caleb stepped back, almost stumbling. That couldn't be right. But he knew it was. That had been JT. The reality of it all slapped him in the face. He grabbed a few beers and turned on his heel, walking away, eyes down. Betrayal was slowly overtaking his confusion, and increasing his anger. He sank down into the sand, bending forward slightly, elbows resting on his set apart knees. He popped the top off of a beer and took a long swig. Caleb had never been one to drink, but when he did, he drank a lot. He rarely got wasted, but with his anger, he downed a beer in less than ten minutes. He was quickly on to his third. The other five would be gone soon as well.
Caleb looked cool and reserved on the outside, but inside he was in a turmoil. His heart pounded painfully in his chest. This was why he'd never gone out for any real length of time with anyone before, why he'd never wanted to become too attached to anyone. Because they were bound to let you down. The beer bottle in his hand trembled as he shook with anger and sadness. They had just been together two nights before at the movies. It'd been great. They'd been joking around and happy. And now... Now she was pressed against some guy that wasn't him. Well, fine. If she didn't want him, she wouldn't have him. Caleb would forget her. He'd occupy his time with Hershey and getting a job, and driving Kaylin around. He'd get over Dalton, just like she apparently had gotten over him.
