Kaylin walked quickly to the stables. Her boots clicked anxiously on the ground as she made her way to the tack room. She stared silently at her saddles. She grabbed her English saddle and Western saddle, carrying them precariously on each arm. She jogged slowly to the outdoor arena and put both saddles on the fence, situating them so that they wouldn't fall. Spinning, she sprinted back to the stables and grabbed a saddle blanket and bridle before going to Puzzle's stall.
"Hey, boy, how ya doing?"
Her voice was friendly as she entered the stall and stroked his muzzle. Still talking quietly about her day, she slid his bridle on and tapped his chin so he would open his mouth and accept the bit. She smiled gently as he worked his mouth around the cold metal. She kissed his forehead before leading him out of the stall. Together, they walked slowly to the outdoor arena, Kaylin talking to him about what they were going to do today.
Pulling open the gate, Kaylin led Puzzle into the ring. After closing the gate and making sure it was firmly in place, Kaylin patted Puzzle's side before using her strong arms to lift herself up and over his firm back. Settling herself on Puzzle's back, she lifted the reins and lightly pressed her heels to Puzzle's sides and smiled as he began his quick walk. Reins lose, Kaylin let Puzzle lead himself around the ring in a smooth circle, only having to correct his path once or twice with an almost inperceptible movement of the reins. She glanced around, looking for the instructor.

Kaylin Camrak, relatively experienced, has a horse. Kayden quickly read what he had jotted down on his hand earlier that morning. This girl was his his first lesson of the day, and hopefully she would be decent. He was stopping in the barn on his way out to check on Cruz and Ryan, the only two horses in his string at the moment. After handing them each a carrot and rubbing his hands down their fragile legs, deciding they were cool and taught, he sighed, stood up and brushed off the back of his jeans.
It only took him a minute to spot the girl and horse in the arena, and immediately he rolled his eyes - just what he needed. He had already met Kaylin and his impression of the girl was that she was thin skinned and whiny. But, first impressions could be wrong. He put on a straight face and rested his elbows against the fence. "Well. Kaylin is it? Kayden Tristani. Lets see a warmup." First lessons always involved the least amount of teaching as he was just trying to see where they were.

Kaylin turned slowly at the sound of boots crunching on the grass just outside the arena. Her eyes narrowed slightly at the sight of the young man from yesterday's ordeal. She sighed and turned away from him, lengthening the rein as Puzzle continued his quick gait. At Kayden's words, she reined Puzzle in and sat silently, staring at him. This was the trainer? Well, shit. That's just wonderful. Kaylin kept her face neutral as he spoke. A warm up. What did he think she was doing? But, if she wanted to learn anything from the guy, she'd have to follow directions and be at least a little bit civil to him. She didn't have to like him. She just had to listen to him.
Kaylin turned Puzzle in a small circle. He'd been quick to notice his rider's annoyance and he suddenly had a burst of energy. Kaylin hummed softly as she spun Puzzle, a habit she'd picked up on the farm. It kept both herself and the horse calm until they were lost in the ride. With Puzzle calmed, Kaylin nudged him gently into an easy walk, circling the pasture three times, reins held tight. She positioned herself again on Puzzle, getting ready. She tapped his sides twice with light heels and flowed easily with his lurch forward before he began his light-paced trot. She loosened her hold on the reins a bit, lengthening his lead and allowing him to go a bit faster. Quickly, they'd circled the arena five times.
Kaylin frowned slightly, still humming. She hadn't tried cantering with the young gelding yet, and she didn't know what to expect. It was stupid, waiting until the first day of lessons, but that's exactly what she'd done. She'd just been getting to know Puzzle the past few days. Kaylin held the reins in steady hands, feeding Puzzle more lead before clicking her tongue once as she tapped his sides.
Puzzle jumped forward, soaring through the air before touching down and stretching his body into a smooth, long paced canter. Kaylin luckily rose from Puzzle's back as he'd leapt into the air, surprised to see the ground moving away. She came down a bit roughly but quickly regained her composure. Puzzle eagerly moved with slightly bumpy grace as they moved around the arena. Finally, after seven laps, Kaylin reigned him in, patting his side as she directed him towards Kayden.
"Good boy, Puzzle."
She looked at Kayden, waiting for the critism to come.

Kayden watched in amusement as Kaylin, obviously flustered, began to spin her horse in a tight circle. He shook his head lightly, but kept quiet as he did whenever he was assessing a horse and rider pair. It was obvious almost off the bat that the horse was too green for her. But she managed to get the horse moving in a walk, trot and canter. Her main mistake was not giving the horse time to stretch out his back and supple up. She had put down in her lesson request that she wanted to work in Combined Training, which was show jumping and dressage. The horse she was riding, in his opinion, had more the look of a hunter horse or possibly a fox hunting horse – both interesting sports, but not something he was into.
After her warm up she pulled the horse to a stop and looked at him with an attempt of a straight face – of course, he saw straight through this and glimpsed the animosity that was obvious behind her mask. He lifted a foot up and placed it on the second rail from the ground, leaning forward and pulling the brim of his worn hat a little lower. ”Look, I give all my students the same chance. Don’t expect me to treat you any different due to your outburst yesterday – you start over today in my lesson book – now outside of lessons is different.” He took a deep breath and continued ”If you want me to be honest, I think you need a horse that has more experience in Dressage and Show Jumping if you want to excel – this is a decent horse, but he’s green still. We can work at it, but it’s going to be a lot easier on yourself if you take a more experienced horse. Your choice.” He wasn’t being mean, he was being honest – and he actually knew a great horse for her, she would have to give up the young one, but in return he would be bringing in a fine little horse – pony actually, that could teach her the ropes and then some.

Kaylin was a bit surprised when he stated that she'd started with a clean state, their prior meeting unimportant. But when he started talking about changing horses, her shoulders slumped a bit. She'd just gotten Puzzle, and was already starting to bond with him. She slid off of Puzzle, leaning her shoulder against his. Puzzle looked over his shoulder at her and butted her own slim shoulder. She lifted a hand and rubbed his muzzle, still looking at Kayden. The idea of giving up the young gelding very much displeased her, but Kayden was the trainer after all. He knew best. And she knew he was only being helpful.
"I see... Name. Breed. Height. Other."
Kaylin rattled off the quick list. She wanted to know more about the other horse. She wouldn't give Puzzle up for some horse she had never seen, knew nothing about. But she knew she'd already made her decision.
"Can I see this other horse now?"

Kayden smiled at the girl and reached into his back pocket pulling out the pamphlet of all his stock he was considering. "Small Stuff a.k.a Jack - thirteen and a half hands high, palomino, 14 years old. He's pretty much a little packer, he has a little bit of stickiness in his cross country - water and ditches - and can only show up to novice level - maybe training with a phenomenal rider, but he's a good starting pony." He stuffed the pamphlet back and sighed. "If i leave now i can have him here by tonight." There was also something Kaylin didn't know about Jack - Kayden had trained him himself, Kayden was the only one to ever take the horse to a training level event, but he had trained the horse for Jay, and the horses previous rider was just now outgrowing him.

Kaylin glanced over the pamphlet. She nodded slowly, stroking Puzzle's muzzle. He looked like great horse. She glanced at Puzzle, sadness in her eyes. She felt bad, but she was sure Puzzle would be asked for soon by someone else. Sure, I'll try him out. Just send me a txt or something when he gets here. She turned away from Kayden, realizing that the older guy was probably done with her.

Kayden shrugged and turned away, reaching into his pocket and looking for his car keys. "Can you send me your contact information, and i'll let you know when i get him here." Kayden reached out and rubbed the young horses neck, eyeing him. He could possibly be a project horse - he wasn't right for Kaylin, but Kaylin was young, age and riding wise, therefor it would be better to have her on a more experienced horse, and Jack was most definitely experienced. With that Kayden walked away, his left arm swinging as he lifted his sidekick to his ear after punching in the number to Jack's owner. "Yeah, i found a little girl that would be perfect for him. I'll be over in about an hour and a half. I can't stay long, i've got curphew."
