The sky seemed to suddenly burst open as thunder roared and the rain began to pour. Jenna grabbed her math book from the bench next to her and ran for cover. She dashed into the gathering hall, but not before she was half-drenched. She sighed and pulled off her Hollister hoodie to reveal a neat, dry tank top. She dried her hair with the hoodie and flopped down on a couch. Opening her math book, she tried to work a problem, but found found that she could not concentrate with all of the noise in the room. That was why she was outside in the first place, to find some peace a quiet. She was loving living a boarding school with a bunch of kids her age, but found that it really was hard to find a quiet place with all the people around.
Jenna closed the book and glanced around the room. She really had not met many people and had been too busy signing up for classes and applying for a horse and such to go out of her way to make some friends. There were plenty of people in the gathering hall, but most of them already seemed to be busy doing work or talking, so Jenna staying sitting on the couch by herself because she did not want to interupt. She picked up the remote and flipped on the tv, suprised that no one had already done so. She flipped channels, not finding anything that she was intersted in, and then set the remote down and stated blankly at some lame home-makeover show.

Levi jogged into the gathering hall. His hoodie was completely soaked. He sighed lightly as he entered the room look around him. He noticed a spot by the girl. She was sitting in front of a television but it didnt look like she was watching. He walked up behind the house taking off his hoodie. It was soaking wet. Hi, um do you mind if I take a seat here? Levi asked her. He stayed standing and he would until she would answer him.
He put the sweatshirt under his arm. He shook his head a bit getting his wet hair off of his forehead. It was brown from being wet and nothing like his normal hair color. Levi's blue eyes scanned the perimeter looking to see if he knew anyone. He didnt see anyone he knew. So hopefully she would let him sit down cause he had no where else to go. His white tank top that he had on made him get goose bumps a bit but he didnt mind.

Jenna looked up as the boy walked over. He looked even more wet than she was and asked if he could sit down. Sure, she said with a smile. I'm Jenna. She discretley looked him up and down as he shook his hair and water flew off. I got caught in the rain, too, she laughed, tossling her wet brown hair with her right hand as proof.
The home-makeover show went to a commercial which was apparently quite a bit louder than the show becasue the tv blared. Jenna reached for the remote and quiclky turned down the volume as people turned to see where the noise was coming from. Sorry, Jenna said good-naturedly to no one in particualar. She turned back to the boy, waiting to see if he would sit.

Nice meeting you Jenna. I'm Levi. Levi said taking a seat next to her. He smiled as she showed him her sweat shirt. Yea doesnt seem like typical California weather. Levi said laughing. He put his sweat shirt behind him so that he wouldnt have to deal with it being in front of him. His hair was soaking wet but he didnt mind at least it had stopped dripping. He turned to Jenna and smiled.
Levi looked at the tv again. It was funny how sometimes the show was quite so you turn it up. Except when its time for commericials they are just super loud. He laughed at the thought of when that happened to him. He was watching tv with his little sisters and he turned it up so they could all hear Hannah Montana speaking and then commercial come on Levi jumped out of his chair screaming. His sister Kasey laughed at him so hard. Jasmine his half sister was to little to understand but just smiled when he started to scream.
That was when things were still pretty tense in the household. His family had just gotten all back together and finally could sort of talk. Levi never wanted his mom to go to work because of what she did the last time she went to work. She didnt come back all night once and then the next thing the family knew she was pregnant. His dad kicked her out of th house but when the baby was born he took her back in. Jasmine was living proof of what his mother had done. Looking nothing like Kasey or Levi. Jasmine had bright bleach blonde hair and aqua blue eyes where Levi's father had brownish hair and brown eyes. Levi shook his head and returned to reality.

Jenna smiled as Levi introduced himself and sat down. I don't know much about California weather. I just got here from Georgia a few days ago. Jenna watched Levi as he looked at the tv, not seeming to be watching it, and cocked her head to the side a little without even noticing. Her friends always made fun of her for doing that, saying she looked like a confused puppy. So, what grade are you in, she asked, trying to make conversation. Levi looked about her age, but considering that the entire school was about her age, she couldn't really guess how old he was.
The rain outside had slowed a bit, but it still fell on the windows like someone tapping on them. Jenna hoped that the rain would stop soon. It was going to be muddy enough walking back to her dorm, she didn't want to be sinking up to her knees in it. A couple more people walked into the room. It was getting to be kind of crowded and Jenna wondered if the gathering hall was the only place that people hung out at CA.

Levi laughed a bit. He had no clue about California weather either. I have no clue about California weather either. I think its unpredictable. I'm from Nebraska. Levi said. She said she was from Georgia. Wow you came from a long way. Levi said. He didnt come to far but that didnt bother him. He didnt care to be close to home or far from home. As long as he was away he was fine.
I'm a sophomore...what grade are you in? He asked her. She looked to be older then he was. He couldnt tell though. She looked close to his age but then again he could be wrong like always. He smiled at her and waited for her to answer him. His eyes wandered the place and hearing the other people talking quite loudly. He turned his attention back to Jenna so that he wouldnt miss what she was saying.

Jenna laughed. Yeah, my mom thought I was too distracted from school work and getting good grades at home, so she shipped me off here. It was a stupid idea if you ask me. She wanted to get me to focus on school insted of horses so she sent me to a school with a big barn. Jenna realized that she was rambling and stopped. She really didn't understand why her mother had done that and it made her mad everytime she though about it. I'm a junior, Jenna answered as Levi asked her grade.
Is Nebraska a big horse place, she asked. She really didn't know anything about Nebraska except for where it was and that was only because she had to name all the states on a map in the fifth grade. She assumed that Levi rode just because he was here at CA, but she could be wrong. Apparently not everyone here rode, though Jenna couldn't see why anyone wouldn't want to ride.

In Nebraska being in the rodeo is a big thing. I was in it once cow tying with my dad but then I liked to be in the english saddle. Levi said about his home. That was a while ago though. Levi failed to mention. This was before all the dramma and before his mom got a job in the city parts of town. Levi laughed about why her parents shipped her here. He wished his reason was sort of like that.
I'm a sophomore. Levi said as she replied that she was a junior. He looked at her and smiled. He figured she was older then she was. He looked outside. It was still raining. He wanted to be able to go out and shoot some hoops or ride. Those would both have to wait until it was sunny and shiny outside. He turned his attention back to Jenna.

Rodeo's look like they'd be fun, Jenna said as Levi finished talking about Nebraska, But I've only ever seen them on tv. I'm more of an english person myself, Saddlebreds actually. Jenna wondered what her stallion, Ritz, was doing at that moment. Standing in his stall because it was raining out? She hoped the trainer she was paying to exercise him while she was away was doing a good job with him. Realizing that her mind had been wandering, something it did often when she thought about home, Jenna turned her attention back to Levi. So, do you do a lot of riding? she asked.
Jenna had been hoping to do some riding today since she had just been assigned a horse a coupld days ago, but since it was raining, she figured that the indoor ring would be packed. She didn't really want to have to maneuver the spunky Andalusion through all of the other horses, especially since she didn't know him that well yet. Would he get along alright with the rest of them? She had no idea.

Levi nodded. He only competed in a few rodeos when he was littler. Nothing major. He enjoyed riding english way better though. Jumping just caught his attention too. Yea I ride English all the time. Levi said to Jenna. He wanted the rain to stop. He wanted to go jump his stallion that he had been assigned here. He hadnt been able to ride Gold yet because something always came up. He either had school or the weather was bad and the arenas were all occupied. Levi craned his neck to look out the window the rain didnt look like it was giving up anytime soon. Well your by the ocean so its going to rain a lot. Levi said to himself. Sometimes he wondered things that he already knew.
He thought about Gold sitting in his stall waiting to greet Levi for his afternoon meal and maybe a snak. He would then get his chestnut coat groomed till it was sparkling and if he was lucky they would go for a walk. Gold was the most gentlest stallion Levi had ever met. He had his testy side but it was easy to win him over by giving him a treat. Gold seemed to always be in a good mood and didnt bite him or try to pull any pranks. He smiled at the thought of Gold trying to prank him and he just laughed to himself.
