Personality: Tric is one of those geldings who has yet to realize he’s been gelded. He acts like a stallion on most occasions, except when he’s working. Anytime he’s reining, or driving cattle, or running barrels or poles, he’s working, and you’re better off to just stay out of his way, because he knows his job and he’s just going to get it done with or without your help. His in hand manners are impeccable, mostly because Delany would beat the crap out of him if he ever stepped on her or crowded or nipped at her, so he’s learned that’s another part of his job is to be respectful...Well, of Delany, anyway. Most other people have a difficult time handling him, just because he’s such a prick, but he does his best to stay the heck out of Delany’s way. As far as with other horses, he still thinks he’s a stallion, and the lead stallion at that, so he can get a little nippy and kicky, although once he gets to know his stable mates, generally he’ll settle down.
History: Well, Electric Current was trained professionally for reining. He was then sold to a family who didn’t really know much about horses. They basically ruined him. They were bigger people with terribly hard hands, on a gelding that was well trained enough to need only the lightest of cues. He became extremely sour and mean, and they didn’t know how to handle him. Delany bought him straight off, for extremely cheap, almost nothing at all, and she pretty much worked the crap out of him. She got him out of the arena and pushing cows. The change of scenery seemed to do him good, and, slowly he began to settle down. He was still a prick, even around Delany, and she continued to work him hard every day, never giving him a moment off, and doing something new and different every morning. The change was good for him, rather than just doing the same ring work every day, and he began to anticipate his job. His energy was endless, and he soon became Del’s main horse, simply because you couldn’t afford to give him a day off. It soon became apparent, though, that Delany was the only one who had gained any respect from the gelding, and everyone else, even her family, had a very difficult time just leading the gelding to turn him out. Delany got his respect only because she wasn’t scared of him. At any rate, eventually she brought him back into the ring and got him reining again, which proved to be a thrill for Delany, who’d never had a reining horse before, and the gelding did his best for her. She also trained him to put her in the right spot for roping, and he proved a competitive horse in barrels and poles. At any rate, he’s now come to Canterbury because he was getting out of control back home.
